Deaf Institute's 1st Birthday
By Stuart Holmes | Mon, 09 March, 2009
THE beauty of living in a musically vibrant city such as Manchester is that it caters for all tastes, but there had never been a venue which truly covered all of the bases regularly – that is, until The Deaf Institute opened its doors.
The team at Trof has had a successful year with their new venture, and on Saturday night their winning formula was celebrated with a culmination of all its regular club nights.
After indulging in the free food and drinks on offer, revellers were treated to a plethora of cutting edge sounds, not to mention plenty of old favourites.
In the main bar, Chips with Everything commenced proceedings with an eclectic mix of leftfield electro, disco, and pop.
Later, the Now Wave DJs showcased the music of the bands that have made their weekly gigs so appealing. In the early hours, Hot Club took to the decks, playing a mixture of tunes from across the decades.
Down in the basement, the DJs of Club Yeah, Mini Murkage and Picnic all joined forces for an exhaustive fusion of rave, acid house, dubstep, hip-hop, jungle, grime and everything in between.
Beneath the glistening disco ball of the Music Hall, Matty J and Ben Terry played disco, house and Balearic beats, in an extended night of the El Diablo’s Social Club monthly residency.
The dance floor was rightfully crowded; with the seating at the back of the room being a welcome opportunity for guests to catch their breath and take in the sight of the room’s impressive décor.
Let’s hope that the venue continues to build on its current achievements, and that there are many more birthday parties to come.
