We//Are//Animal Single Review - High Voltage, September 2010

We//Are//Animal - Black Magic

In follow up to their impressive debut single, ‘1268’, WE//ARE//ANIMAL continue their fine form with the self released 'Black Magic'; a track which is sure to continue their climb to greater heights.

The D.I.Y. production values remain in prominence and the results strongly work in favour of their ‘rough around the edges’ style; a key factor of the band’s overall charm. It begins relatively lo-fi but soon rises to provide a taste of the live sound that the band is (slowly but surely) becoming notorious for.

The bass guitar is twanged with vigour, drum beats reverberate with intent, and the lead guitar bounces: all of which provide a high platform for Owain Ginsberg’s vocals that (appropriately enough) follow the prestigious trend of the Super Furry Animal’s very own Gruff Rhys.

All in all, the track provides yet another enticement towards their forthcoming debut album, Idolise, which is scheduled for a release on Art Union Recordings later this year.
